Welcome to Week 10
WOW – Term One has flown by! It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming children and families to school on the first day, with the summer warmth around us. The students have all done an excellent job adapting to new routines, building friendships, and enjoying the exciting learning opportunities Term One offers. To all the parents and carers at CtK, thank you for your continued support this term.
Parent Teacher Interviews:
A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who took the time to meet with their child’s teacher this term. Your engagement plays a crucial role in strengthening the partnership between home and school, helping each child reach their full potential. We also want to express our gratitude to our dedicated teachers for their hard work in preparing for these parent interviews. They put in tremendous effort to ensure their meeting notes are current and up-to-date, and their observations and data are clear and concise. Thank you!
Telethon Morning:
On the 4th of April, Bailen, Tessa, Sofia and I (Pearl) as part of the Student Council, were chosen to go to the Telethon Giving Ceremony, which was held at the Crown Ballroom. Inside the ballroom, it looked like a kid’s birthday party, with a lot of important adults, such as the Premier Roger Cook, The Telethon Chairman Richard Goyder, Basil Zempilas, the Lord Mayor or Perth, and other guests who have donated to Telethon. My job was to hand out Positive Pegs, which were an idea inspired by a Telethon Student named Charlee, and her Cheer Team. The pegs represent kindness and show friendliness to one another. Charlee meant for it to be pegged on a person to show that they are cared about and are loved. I personally found the event really fun.

Freo Dockers Cup:
On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of attending the Freo Dockers Cup Footy Carnival at Santich Park, Lake Coogee, where a group of amazing Year 5 and Year 6 girls represented our school. Congratulations to all the girls for their participation, determination, and fantastic sportsmanship. You should be incredibly proud of your efforts! A special thanks to Mr. Damian Geaney for coaching and supporting the girls, and to Mr. Jacob Dragovich (father of Isobel in PP and Easton in PK) for also helping with coaching. This was our first time entering this football carnival, and we look forward to participating again next year and improving even more! Well done to all involved!
Communication Guidelines at CtK:
Parents and carers play a vital role in their children’s education, and a strong partnership between home and school enhances their learning journey. Clear communication is key to keeping our community informed about what’s happening at school. If you need to discuss anything related to your child, please always contact your child’s class or specialist teacher first. Teachers will always contact relevant parents directly regarding any school matters.
Please remember that our teachers will not be responding to seesaw messages or emails after 4pm. Each teacher has set their “work hours” on seesaw to ensure consistency across the team. Unless it’s an urgent matter, please allow up to 48 hours for a response to emails and seesaw messages. Teachers are not expected to respond on weekends (Saturday or Sunday) or during school holidays. Part-time staff are not required to respond to any form of communication on their non-working days.
It is important to note that we all have lives beyond school, and many of us are parents, family members, and friends. Just like other professionals, we need time to focus on those roles outside of work hours without interruptions. We are very fortunate to have such a supportive group of parents and carers at CtK, and I’m confident that you will continue to assist our staff by keeping these factors in mind when reaching out to them.
Parking:
Please remember to follow our school’s parking guidelines, particularly in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) car park. Parking is limited, especially during drop-off and pick-up, so your cooperation is essential for safety and smooth traffic flow. The ECE car park is for families with children in Pre-Kindy, Kindy, and Pre-Primary only. Families with children in Years 1-6 should use the Loop Car Park on Annie Street. If your child is independent, please drop them off at the Loop for their safety.
Ensure you know where your child will be picked up and communicate this clearly with them. Pre-Kindy and Kindy students finish at 2:45pm, while Pre-Primary to Year 6 are dismissed at 3pm. After pick-up, please supervise your child as playing or riding bikes on school grounds is not allowed.
Parking is available in the ECE, Learning Centre, and Loop car parks. Parking on Annie and Caldwell Streets is public. The ECE car park requires a permit, and ACROD bays are reserved for permit holders. If someone else is picking up or dropping off your child, ensure they are aware of the parking rules and have the proper permit on display.
We kindly ask all parents and carers to be considerate of our neighbours when dropping off and picking up students. Please avoid parking in or across driveways, even for a brief period. Our neighbours always require clear access to their properties, and we appreciate your help in maintaining a positive relationship within our community. Thank you for your understanding and for supporting us in keeping our school a respectful and considerate environment for everyone.
Head Lice:
We have recently had reports of head lice at our school. While they can be annoying, head lice are not harmful and do not transmit diseases. They are also not related to poor hygiene. We kindly ask that you notify your child’s classroom teacher if your child has head lice, so we can encourage all families to address the issue promptly. Since head lice spread quickly, timely treatment is crucial. With the school holidays approaching, this is a great time to check your child’s hair and treat it to prevent an infestation. Please examine your child’s hair for signs of head lice, following the guidance from the WA Department of Health. You can find more information and advice here: https://healthywa.wa.gov.au

Student Spotlight:
Did you know that Rosie (Mikyla) Austin and Grace Kenworthy in Year 4 Gold, both competed in the States Track and Field Championships on the weekend of 22nd March? Rosie Austin (Mikyla) is now Number 1 in the state for high jump and 5th in the state for hurdles for Under 9 Girls. Grace completed in the shot-put. We are sooo PROUD of you girls! Well done!!

A Message from the School Nurse – Miss Andrea Mangan
Wishing You a Safe and Happy School Holidays from Wellness Centre
As we wrap up another busy and rewarding term, I’d like to take a moment to wish you and your families a safe, happy, and relaxing school holiday break. We hope it’s filled with fun, rest, and quality time together (and of course lots of chocolate).
A quick reminder from the Wellness Centre: if your child requires any health-related support or medication during Term 2, the School Nurse is available to assist you with planning and preparation. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need any guidance – always here to help!
If your child needs to receive medication at school, please remember that a Medication Consent Form must be completed and submitted prior to the start of the term. The form is available on the school website under the Communication section. Once completed, please email it directly to andrea.mangan@cewa.edu.au or feel free to drop it on the first morning back of the new term.
For any Schedule 4 medications (e.g., Midazolam, Ritalin, Dexamphetamines etc.) the medication in its original pharmacy packaging, clearly labelled by the pharmacy with:
- the student’s name, dosage, and prescribing doctor’s instructions.
Any additional instructions or documentation from your child’s healthcare provider if applicable.
We truly appreciate your ongoing support and partnership in ensuring your child’s wellbeing at school. Enjoy the holidays and I look forward to seeing everyone back safe and refreshed for the new term.

Messages from the P&F President – Mrs Suraya Correia
On behalf of the P&F, I would like to say a huge THANK YOU CtK for all of your support and generosity this term. We have had a big few weeks with the Disco, Easter Raffle and Sausage Sizzle, and we are so pleased to say we are a big leap closer to our fundraising goal for the Nature Playground. It has been great to see so many new faces volunteering at events this year and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we do!
Mother’s Day is coming up in Week 2 of Term 2 and we will be running the Mother’s Day Stall as well as a Mother’s Day Morning Tea and Classroom Visit. Details are on the Flyers below and we ask for you to please RSVP by Friday 2nd May if you are wanting to attend the Morning Tea. We are looking for volunteers for the Mother’s Day Stall on Wednesday 7th May and the Morning Tea on Friday 9th May (Dads we are looking at you). If you can spare a few hours, please jump on the Hub and sign up.
