From the Principal – Term 1, Week 08

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members,

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son
for the sake of me
and you
and other sinners too.
God so loved the world.
Blest are you Lord Jesus, our Saviour and Redeemer.

Amen

As we recalled Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, we now enter into the story of the passion, where we are challenged to do our part to ensure that God’s people are empowered to share in that new life, not only spiritually, but physically as well. We give with compassion and mercy. Easter is a message of hope as we are a ‘Hope’ filled Easter people.

Every Easter I remember the words of Michael Leunig. They are so challenging and so profound. I hope they have a similar impact on you.

“That which is Christ-like within us shall be crucified. It shall suffer and be broken. And that which is Christ-like within us shall rise up. It shall love and create.”

What a wonderful but challenging term this has been! The atmosphere around the school has been very positive. It has been tremendous to see staff, students and parents working collaboratively in many of the school activities. Well done to all our children who have strived to do the best they can in all areas of their development. I thank all children and staff for their hard work and commitment to learning and look forward to continuing the journey next term.

Thank you to all staff from Donovan House for preparing yesterday’s Donovan Liturgy. The singing and reading from the children were fantastic. Bravo and well done to all involved. Thank you to Mrs Carroll for coordinating the liturgy this year.

Thank you in advance to all parents who will attend the Parent/Teacher Interviews next Wednesday. I do hope the feedback will be effective with something positive, a discussion about expectations, and then where to next for your child’s learning moving forward.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank my staff for their outstanding work and commitment to our CtK family, and parents for their continual support of our school. We are all ready for a rest and a holiday, and I pray that when the holidays arrive the two week break will be a happy, peaceful time for everyone.

Thank you to the P&F and School Advisory Council for their hard work once again and for their commitment to our school’s vision, being a school that is strong in faith, learning and community. This was clearly evident by the overwhelming attendance at Evening on the Green. A very special thank you in advance to Mr Alf Di Tullio, Mr Danny Cerro and Mr John Cuthbertson for coordinating the Fathering Group camp out this weekend and, for being wonderful contributors and support for the all the dads in our school. Awesome job gents, BRAVO!

A reminder to all parents that Term 2 commences Monday, 15 April for staff and students.

Stations of the Cross

Next Thursday morning the Year Six children will hold a very reverent and moving portrayal of the Passion of Christ. Thank you in advance to all the children for depicting the stations. Also, thank you to Miss Kezic and Mrs Barrett and Mrs Carroll for leading this for our school community.

Winter UniformUniform Shop Update:

A reminder to all parents that next term all students are required to be in winter uniform. To assist parents and students in this transition, a two-week change-over period will be permitted.

As a school we will be commemorating ANZAC Day on Wednesday, 24 April, at 9:00am in the Quad. All are welcome to join us for this special event. A reminder Thursday, 25 April is ANZAC DAY and Friday 26 April is a Pupil Free Day as all staff will be involved in a Spirituality PD.

PreKindy and Kindergarten 2025 – Applications are Now Due

We are seeing high demand for 3 Year Old Kindergarten and Four Year Old Kindergarten places 2025, so it is important that parents within the Christ the King School community submit their applications as soon as possible. Forms can be obtained from the office. I have already commenced interviews for both.

Christ the King School will continue to operate two concurrent 4 Year Old Kindergarten groups next year with the days of attendance being Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (which is optional).

Dads and Kids Camp Out

Tomorrow evening dads and their kids will be camping on the school oval. Lots of excitement has been organised and it is still not to late to register and join in the fun.

Congratulations Patch on graduating as a Therapy Dog. She completed intensive training at a school in Bedfordale then a final assessment at CtK with Frank Fitpatrick from Makopup.

End of Term Prayer

As we end this term, we consider how we might have changed, grown and
become more like Jesus during this time.
Jesus said, ‘Everyone will know you are my friends if you love one another.’
Let us show our love by making peace and trying to make things better.
Let us show our love by caring about the happiness of others and by thanking them for their goodness to us.
Let us love one another as we share our meals and laugh and celebrate together.
Help us, Lord, to love one another as Jesus has loved us.

Amen.

There are ‘great things’ happening in our school due to the efforts of so many people; thank you to everyone in our community who has helped live out this vision through their actions this term.

I wish all families the joy of the Resurrection this Easter.

Messages from the Assistant Principal

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent teacher interviews will be held next Wednesday 27 March, 2024 from 12.30pm – 6pm. Please be advised that school will finish at 12pm. If you cannot collect your child/ren at 12pm, they will be supervised at school until 3pm.

Please remember that Parent teacher meetings are an opportunity to discuss student progress, set goals and share information, whilst emphasising the partnership between home and school, as this is a key factor in developing each child to strive for their potential. If you have not yet made a time to meet with your child’s teacher, please do so via the online booking system link, which was sent to all parents and carers during the week. We thank our dedicated teachers for all their hard work in preparing these interviews. Thank you to everyone for keeping this open and honest communication flowing. This can only mean one thing – the best outcomes for your children.

NAPLAN

Congratulations to our students in Year 3 and 5 for completing the NAPLAN assessments throughout the past two weeks. We have been so impressed with the way the children have completed the assessments with a positive mindset. Thank you to our Year 3 and 5 teachers, who administered the assessments, during the testing period. NAPLAN results are one of the data sources that schools use to determine student achievement and progress over time.

Sacramental Enrolment Masses

Thank you to everyone who attended the Sacrament Enrolment Masses a few weeks ago at Christ the King Church. The Sacramental Enrolment Masses was held for our Year 3, 4 and 6 students who will receive a sacrament this year. If you did not attend an enrolment Mass, you will need to attend Mass, at the Church, before your sacrament weekend in Term 2.

Harmony Day

Today, we celebrate Harmony Day! Harmony Day is a day of celebration dedicated to promoting Australia’s cultural diversity and fostering a sense of inclusion and harmony. We appreciate the many different cultures that attend our school and hope to promote the values of respect and inclusivity. This week, buddy classes got together to complete an activity that deepens their understanding of Harmony Day and why it is important.

GRIP Leadership Conference

On Monday 18 March, our Head Girl and Head Boy were lucky enough to attend the GRIP Leadership Conference at the Perth Convention Centre. The day proved to be a lot of fun as the students participated in plenty of dance and networking activities. The conference was a wonderful opportunity for our student leaders which has helped inspire their leadership journey. They represented our school very well and should be so proud of themselves! Please see a short spiel below from our leaders;

Hello everyone! As you know we are Dominique and Christian, the Head Girl and Head Boy of Christ the King School. On Monday, we went to the Perth Convention Centre with Mrs Reardon to learn more about the values of a good leader. Some of the things we learnt we about were: The Sacrifices of a Student Leader, How Everybody Can Step Forward and Lead, To Come Up with New Ideas and to Befriend Others. One thing we learnt and would like to share was about stepping forward and improving our school in many ways and we also got ideas from students from other schools. We enjoyed our time there and think the future Head Girl and Boy should have the opportunity to visit as well. We hope you have a lovely day!

 Dominique and Christian

Cricket Carnival

Good luck to our selected Year 5 & 6’s as they represent our school at the Interschool Cricket Carnival, on Friday at Karoonda Reserve in Booragoon. Parents and friends are welcome to attend and support the teams. Go Christ the King!

Project Compassion

We begin to reflect ever more on the suffering that Jesus was about to face, and we take time to consider ways that we can live better and reduce the suffering of those around us. As a Catholic school, we are strong in our support of Caritas and Project Compassion. Thank you for assisting your child/ren in making contributions to their Project Compassion. Could you please ensure compassion boxes are returned to the school office next week. We appreciate your support.

Monday the 18th of March, 2024 saw a nail-biting finish, the under 10 girls basketball Grand Final ended with a close score of 13-12. Both teams displayed incredible skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the game, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer. The players showcased their impressive basketball abilities, demonstrating their passion and commitment to the sport. Although one team emerged victorious with a one-point lead, the Lightning Hoop Wolves should be proud of their performance in the Grand Final, as they gave it their all and left everything on the court. Congratulations to our Christ the King students Georgia Bellem, Frankie De Groot, Penny De Groot and Valentina Scagliotta for their achievement and great effort. We are proud of you girls!

Wishing you all a safe and happy Easter and an enjoyable holiday break with family and friends!
