2025 – Term 1, Week 08

As we journey through this season of Lent we might consider the message that Jesus gave and demonstrated to us which was ‘to consider others before Himself.’ The following prayer gives us a focus for doing this.

Dear Lord,
Give me a kind heart that will endure,
One that’s strong and secure.
To help someone along the way,
Make this my goal every day.
Let me lend a helping hand
To someone whose life has not gone as planned,
Reaching out to one in need,
May this be my daily good deed,
To provide a guiding light
For someone lost in the dark of night.
Let me take time to care
For someone experiencing despair.
Whatever I do, everywhere I go,
Your Will,
Dear Lord, let me know

Lenten Thought

True prayer is listening – God has more important things to say to us than we to Him (after all, he knows what we are thinking).

If we open our hearts to God, if we allow God to work within us, then God is able to bring out the best in us. With the help of God’s grace, we can grow into the human person that God intended us to be, and in turn we are able to help others to reach their full potential as human beings created in the image and likeness of God . . .

Lord, open my eyes so that I may see the good in all people,
especially those that I am too quick to judge.

CtK Interschool Swimming Carnival

Our students from Years 4-6 enjoyed putting their swimming skills into action, as they represented CtK and won the Championship Shield. Our students participated in a spirit of encouragement and goodwill. It is great to be able to see our swimmers flourish, push others outside their comfort zone, where we grow considerably, and also build great school spirit and pride. A huge thank you to Mrs McLinden and Miss Kezic for being there on the day helping and supporting the swimmers.

On Wednesday afternoon Donovan House celebrated Fr Donovan at the House liturgy in the hall. Thank you to the readers from Donovan, and al the Donovan staff for setting up the artwork display and coordinating the music and PowerPoint. Awesome team effort!

Friday was the ASCS Cricket Carnival where the Year 5 and 6 children played their hearts out. They showed great skills, enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Congratulations to both Girls and Boys ‘B’ teams who won both shields and the Girls ‘A’ team for coming second and Boys ‘A’ team for coming third. This was a tremendous result! A HUGE thank you to Mrs McLinden, Miss Kezic, Mrs Gongalves and Mr Geaney for coaching a team and being there in support on what was a very hot day. Awesome effort by all of the children and staff as they showcased their talents.

Thank you to Alf Di Tullio and Danny Chera for organising the Fathering Group Campout Friday night and Saturday morning. Enjoy the fun and socialising plus lots of soccer games being played!

Teacher Parent Meetings Wednesday 9 April

A reminder that Wednesday, 9 April school will finish at 12pm. If you can collect your child/ren up at 12pm this would be great. Otherwise as previously stated, children will be supervised at school until normal pick-up times.

There are ‘great things’ happening in our school due to the efforts of so many people; seek to be one of those people in the coming week!

Welcome to Week 8

Project Compassion

A reminder as we move through Lent, our community remains committed to supporting Project Compassion. This initiative seeks to stand in solidarity with those facing hardship worldwide, offering prayer and raising essential funds. While we all face challenges in our daily lives, it’s crucial to recognise the many blessings we have in the place we call home. Compared to others around the globe, we are incredibly fortunate, and as a Catholic community, it’s important that we continue to extend our support to those in need. Please ensure your family Project Compassion boxes are returned to school in the last week of Term One. We thank you for your continued support.

NAPLAN

Congratulations to our Year 3 and Year 5 students for successfully completing the NAPLAN assessments over the past two weeks. We have been incredibly impressed with the positive attitude and effort shown by the children throughout the process. A big thank you to our Year 3 and Year 5 teachers for administering the assessments during this period. NAPLAN results provide valuable data that schools use to track student achievement and progress over time.

Sacramental Enrolment Masses

Thank you to everyone who attended the Sacramental Enrolment Masses on the weekend of 15th and 16th March at Christ the King Church. These Masses were held for our Year 3, 4 and 6 students who will be receiving a sacrament this year. If you were unable to attend an enrolment Mass, it is vital to attend a Mass at the Church before your sacrament weekend in Term 2. Please contact the Parish to arrange a suitable time as Sacraments are now Parish based.

Harmony Day 2025

Thank you to all the students, staff and families who participated and supported Harmony Day 2025 at Christ the King School. It was a wonderful day to celebrate the diversity within our school community and for our students to meet and get together with their buddy! Huge thanks to our P&F for providing icy poles to our students on this day!

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parents and carers will have the opportunity to meet with their child’s Teacher(s) on Wednesday 9 April (Week 10), starting at 12:30pm. Please note that school will finish at 12pm. If you are unable to collect your child/ren at 12pm, they will be supervised at school until 3pm. Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held in ten-minute intervals across all year groups (K-6). If you have already met with your child’s classroom teacher, there is no need to schedule another meeting. To ensure the afternoon runs smoothly, we kindly ask that parents and guardians respect the ten-minute time limit.

Gingernut Coffee Van will be on site in the quadrangle from 1pm – 3.30pm so please feel free to buy a coffee or drink if you can! Please see the link below to book in a 10-minute time slot with the teacher/s. If you have multiple children, you will need to repeat the booking process for each child. Bookings will close on Monday 31 March, 2025 at 9am.

Please note, that parent-teacher meetings provide an opportunity to discuss student progress, set goals and share important information, while fostering the vital partnership between home and school. This collaboration plays a key role in helping each child reach their full potential. If you have not yet scheduled a meeting with your child’s teacher, please do so through the online booking system link that was sent to all parents and carers last week. Thank you to our dedicated teachers for all their hard work in preparing for these interviews. St John Ambulance Incursion – (K-6)

On Monday and Tuesday next week (Week 9), our students will have the opportunity to take part in a FREE St John Ambulance Incursion at our school. We are excited for all students to engage in this experience and gain important, lifelong skills!

Illness

As previously mentioned, we continue to prioritise the health and safety of our school community, we kindly remind you to keep your child at home, if they are feeling unwell. This precaution is especially important as we have members of our school community who are immunocompromised and vulnerable to illness.

Unfortunately, throughout recent weeks, we have had to send many students home from school due to illness. This in turn has an impact on the other students as well as the staff. While it can be hard to know whether to keep your child home when they are not feeling well, there are some signs to look out for. Please keep your child home if they have:

* fever (a temperature above 37.5 degrees Celsius)
* nausea with vomiting
* diarrhoea
* sore eyes with pus or mucus
* sore throat
* bad cough
* rash or skin sores, especially on the face, hands and feet

By keeping sick children at home, we can minimise the risk of spreading illnesses and protect the well-being of all students and staff members. If your child is experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, upset tummy or any other signs of illness, we urge you to err on the side of caution and keep them home until they are fully recovered.

Please ensure your contact details are up to date at the front office so you can be reached easily. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated and contributes to maintaining a healthy learning environment for all at Christ the King School.

Messages from the P&F President – Mrs Suraya Correia

Come and Bop Til You Drop with your Brightest NEON gear at the Term 1 Disco! The amazing team from Bop Til You Drop will be running the disco’s and will be having fun dance competitions, games with prizes and taking song requests. A standard Entry Ticket OR a Ticket, Pizza and Drink Combo are available to buy now on the P&F Hub. All tickets and pizza must be purchased online on the P&F hub by Monday 31st March. All children attending Session 1 MUST have a parent/guardian supervise them for the entire disco. We ask that you please where possible, keep your attending family to a minimum as it does get squishy and starts to overtake the childrens dancefloor space. On the night we will have LED/Glowing novelties, a Candy Bar and extra drinks will be available to purchase with card/cash on the night. This year we will also have a NEON Glow Station with assorted paint designs and glow in the dark tattoos!

The last P&F meeting of Term 1 was re-scheduled to next Wednesday 2^nd April at 5-6pm in the Library. In this meeting we will be continuing the planning for Term 2 events/fundraisers, and we welcome all parents to attend.
