From the Principal – Term 4, Week 5

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members,

On Tuesday, our Year 6 students led us in a service over the PA system to acknowledge Remembrance Day – The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.  This marks the moment the guns fell silent on the Western Front after the bloodshed of World War I in 1918. Today, Remembrance Day is a chance to recognise all who have lost their lives in service, including in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

We have now passed halfway through Term 4 and students have demonstrated an excellent effort this year as a whole. It is important that we complete the year to the same high standard that has been set so far in regard to living our school values, using our manners, wearing uniform correctly and completing work with care and attention to detail. Students begin to tire at this stage of the year as the busyness of this period catches up with us. They will thrive if they are in a supportive environment where staff and families have similar expectations and a commitment to working as a team.

A HUGE thank you to Suraya, Katrina, Victoria, Richelle, Mel and extended members of the P&F who made the 80’s Disco and Bingo night last Saturday a spectacular event. The costumes were amazing, entertainment by Peter Rowsthorn funny as ever and the night was filled with loads of fun and laughter.

School Advisory Council and Parent & Friends Annual Community Meeting 2025

I wish to thank my wonderfully talented staff and lovely parents for attending the Annual Community Meeting. At this meeting we presented reports from the Chairperson, Michelle Kurtis, Board Treasurer, Alan Pecotic and my Principal Report. The P&F held their meeting with Suraya Corriea leading this. Suraya and her loyal and devoted team have been instrumental in helping build community and enact change in our school all in the best interest of the children. Research shows that when parents are positively involved in all aspects of their children’s lives, children develop into positive, well-balanced adults who realise their full potential. Our new school’s Strategic Plan 2026-2030 was launched last night. Also, the P&F presented an update on the new nature playground.

Staffing 2026 was also announced, which will be communicated to parents who weren’t at the meeting shortly.

This Wednesday at 9:15am we come together in the hall to celebrate our school’s Feast Day with a Mass for CtK Day. More information about the day will be sent home via class teachers and in the P&F section of this week’s newsletter.

There are ‘good things’ happening in our school due to the efforts of so many people; seek to be one of those people in the coming week!

Welcome to Week 5 Term 4

Spelling Bee Champions:

During Week 3, our Years 4, 5 and 6 students took part in the school Spelling Bee to decide who would represent us at the Fremantle Region competition. Three talented spellers from each year were selected to compete on Tuesday, 4 November, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, going head-to-head with students from three other schools.

Congratulations to Teagan Trang (Year 5) and Fletcher Travis (Year 4) who both took out first place for their year levels! All our students were fantastic ambassadors for our school, showing courage, kindness, and respect throughout the event. We’re so proud of their effort and enthusiasm! Thank you to Mrs Danae Doecke for all her hard work and preparing the students so well.

Year Two Learning:

Over the semester, the Year 2 students have been exploring persuasive writing, focusing on the theme of keeping our environment clean. As part of this learning, they designed their own bin stickers through the Western Australian Government’s Clean Schools Bin Sticker Program, which encourages schools to promote responsible rubbish disposal. The children were passionate about caring for our school environment. CtK staff voted for their top six designs, which will now be proudly displayed on our school bins. A huge thank you to Miss Alyssa Parisella, our Notre Dame Practicum Student for supporting this fantastic initiative!

Student Absences & Late Arrivals Reminders:

There are still several families who are not notifying the school office if your child/ren are absent from school. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT FOR A MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, please take note of the following procedures:

  1. Reporting Absences

All student absences must be reported to the school office by 9am via one of the official channels:

While informing the classroom teacher is appreciated, it does not meet the official attendance requirements.

  1. Late Arrivals – After 8.40am

If your child arrives after 8.40am, please sign them in at the front office. This ensures:

  • Accurate attendance records
  • Their safety in case of emergencies

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and well-organised school environment.

Sickness:

With several illnesses such as colds, flu, influenza, chicken pox, and gastro currently affecting our community, we ask that any children showing symptoms including a sore throat, fever, runny nose, or cough remain at home. If your child becomes unwell during the school day, you will be contacted to collect them. Thank you for your vigilance.

Playing Before & After School:

A gentle reminder that children must remain under the supervision of their parents and are not permitted to use playground equipment before or after school. We kindly ask that once you have collected your child at the end of the day, you leave the school grounds promptly. Please ensure family members or friends collecting your child are also aware that all playground equipment is out of bounds. Thank you for your cooperation.

Student Uniform Reminder & Expectations:

2025 marks the final year of our school uniform transition period. From the beginning of the 2026 school year, all students will be required to wear the new school uniform.

Please note that Tudor Uniforms will close on Thursday, 19 December 2025, and reopen on Monday, 6 January 2026. Orders placed after 6 January may not be ready in time for the new school year, so we encourage all families to make their uniform purchases before 19 December to avoid any delays. Uniforms can be purchased online at tudorschooluniforms.com.au or directly from the Wangara showroom. Thank you for your cooperation in helping ensure a smooth start to the 2026 school year.

A reminder to all families that students must wear the correct school uniform with pride. Recently, some students have been seen wearing incorrect items, including non-school shoes, socks with logos, and hair accessories not in school colours. Please note:

  • Claw clips are not permitted.
  • Socksmust be plain white or school socks.
  • Onlystud earrings or small sleepers are allowed for safety reasons.
  • Hair longer than shoulder lengthmust be tied back neatly.
  • Ensure all uniform items areclearly labelled to assist with their return if lost.

Thank you for your continued support in maintaining our high standards of presentation and pride in our school.

Christmas Hampers:

As we approach the Christmas season, it’s time once again to think of those in our community who may need a little extra support. This year, our school is proudly continuing our tradition of supporting the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal, by collecting non-perishable food items.

Each class has been allocated a specific item to contribute towards creating festive hampers. These hampers will be filled with a variety of Christmas treats to help families enjoy a joyful celebration. Please send your class’s allocated item directly to the library, not to the school office. Once collected, the items will be sorted and packed into hampers for the St Vincent de Paul Society, to distribute to families within our local community.

We kindly ask that all donations be brought in as soon as possible, to allow enough time for the hampers to be prepared and delivered before Christmas. The final date for donations is: Friday, 28 November, 2025 (Week 7).

Head Injuries & Concussion: What Families Should Know

We would like to take a moment to share some important information about head bumps, knocks and concussions — how we manage them at school, and how you can support your child’s safe return to learning.

What is a concussion?

A concussion is a type of mild brain injury caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head (or body) which causes the brain to move rapidly within the skull.

In children and young people, concussions can affect concentration, memory, mood, sleep, balance and vision — even if the child did not lose consciousness. In Western Australia, most head injuries are minor, but appropriate rest and monitoring is still important. HealthyWA+2Perth Children’s Hospital+2

When and how children return to school

Recovery after head injury involves both physical rest and mental (cognitive) rest. One key guideline from Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) outlines a step-wise return to school/learning process: Perth Children’s Hospital+1

Our School’s Procedure & Communication

To ensure we support students safely and keep families informed, here is our established routine:

  • If a student suffers a head bump or knock during school time, our school nurse and staff will assess the situation.
  • For very minor bumps (where the child remains well, no symptoms evident, and it appears low risk) we will inform families via email.
  • For bumps or knocks that are more serious / higher risk (e.g., impact to head + visible injury, any symptoms developing, or a mechanism of injury of concern) we will call the family by phone if you do not answer a voice message will be left and an email will be sent to re-confirm you are aware.
  • The school nurse will encourage a child to go home and seek further assessment (GP or hospital) if there are any signs of concussion, change in behaviour, worsening symptoms, or parent/teacher concern.
  • If however, the child describes no symptoms, appears well, and it is judged safe, then the child may remain at school under supervision by our first-aid trained staff. The student’s teacher and support staff will monitor the child for the rest of the day (and communicate with you if anything changes).

What Parents Can Do

  • After any head knock, please monitor for symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, feeling “in a fog”, difficulty concentrating, sensitivity to light or noise, sleep difficulties, mood changes. The Children’s Trust+1
  • Support your child with rest: both physical rest (avoiding strenuous play, sport) and cognitive rest (reduced screen/TV time, less homework initially) in the first 24-48 hours. Perth Children’s Hospital+1
  • Stay in contact with the school if you notice any changes in your child’s symptoms or behaviour. We will also keep you informed of how they fared at school after a bump.
  • If your child has been advised by a medical professional to stay home, please provide any return-to-school recommendations to the nurse so we can collaboratively support a safe return.
  • Encourage a gradual return to full academic load rather than expecting “all good” immediately. Many children benefit from adjustments: shorter day, breaks, lighter workload, extra monitoring.

💡 “When in doubt, sit them out — rest is key to recovery.”

🧠 “A little bump can mean a big rest — let’s keep brains safe.”

🌿 “Rest first, play later — protecting young minds matters.”

💛 “Safety first — we’d rather miss one game than risk long-term impact.”

👩‍⚕️ “Listen to your child — if they’re not feeling right, they’re not ready.”

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns, or if your child is returning after a head injury and you’d like to discuss how we can support them in the classroom.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership in keeping our students safe and supported.

School Nurse

Messages from the P&F President – Mrs Suraya Correia

We are excited to launch our CTK Day Foam Obstacle Course online fundraiser at Christ The King Primary School. This fun and energetic event will help raise funds for much-needed learning and infrastructure upgrades for next year that will make a lasting impact on the daily lives of our students. With the support of our extended school community, we aim to reach our fundraising goals and continue improving the facilities and resources that support student learning, engagement, and wellbeing.

This year we have created mostly experience based draw prizes, which are split into two categories – Individual and Team (Class). We want to encourage the kids to work together in the team category to win rewards that can be shared with their classmates, like Pizza Parties, Icy Poles, Extended Lunch breaks and Movie Afternoons (with popcorn of course!). We have some amazing prizes in the Individual category too like a Nintendo Switch and the Sliming Mr Kelly and Mrs Reardon!!! Congratulations to Hugo Levy and Indiana Arkwright who have already won the 2 spot prizes for their participation in the fundraiser 👏🏻

We only have 1 week left, so please share your fundraising link around and help us to spread the word!

Fundraising Link – https://ctkfoamobstaclecourse.goraiseit.com.au/

We are still needing a few volunteers for this event so if you could help us out on the day, please jump onto the hub and sign up!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who have donated prizes and obstacles for our last few events of the year and to all of the families who help us fundraise. We appreciate all of you ❤️

Have a lovely weekend CtK!
