Welcome to Week 6!

 

As we come to the end of Week 6, it’s hard to believe we are already well over halfway through Term 1. The past few weeks have been full of learning, growth and wonderful engagement from our students as they continue to settle into their routines for the year.

Across the school, students have been working hard in their classrooms, building strong learning habits and developing confidence in their studies. Teachers are continuing to focus on establishing clear expectations and routines that support positive learning environments. It has been lovely to see students showing kindness, respect and a willingness to support one another both in and out of the classroom.

Week 6 is often a time when students (and teachers) may begin to feel a little tired as the term progresses. Encouraging good routines at home, including regular sleep, healthy lunches and time to relax after school, can make a big difference in helping students stay focused and energised for their learning.

We thank our special CtK families for the ongoing support you provide to our school community. Working together helps ensure our students feel supported, confident and ready to learn each day.

 

Working Together for Our Children

From time to time, teachers may contact parents regarding something that has occurred at school. These conversations are not always easy, but please know that they are made with care and concern for your child’s wellbeing and growth. When children come home and share stories about their day, it is important to remember that they may only be sharing one part of the situation. Open communication between home and school allows us to gain a fuller understanding and work together in the best interests of each child.

Our teachers value parents who are willing to listen, reflect and partner with the school when concerns arise. By working together respectfully and supportively, we can help guide our students to take responsibility for their actions, learn from their mistakes and continue to grow as kind and respectful members of our community. At the end of the day, we all share the same goal. That is supporting our children to learn, grow and thrive! Your support is always appreciated!

 

NAPLAN

NAPLAN is a national assessment of literacy and numeracy for students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9, held annually. The NAPLAN test window will run from Wednesday 11 March to Monday 23 March, 2026. We encourage parents and caregivers to maintain a relaxed and reassuring tone when discussing NAPLAN to help ease any anxiety. Our students are doing well so far!

 

2026 Sacramental Commitment Masses

The Sacramental Commitment Masses for students preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation (Year Three), First Holy Communion (Year Four) and Confirmation (Year Six) will take place on the weekend of Saturday 14 March (6pm) and Sunday 15 March (10am) at Christ the King Church. During these Masses, children from Christ the King will join parishioners to publicly commit to preparing for their Sacraments in 2026. Sacramental Enrolment Forms will be available at the Parish Mass over the weekend. If your child is enrolling in one of the above Sacraments this year, you must attend one of the Masses over this weekend. Please return all completed enrolment forms to your classroom teacher, as soon as possible (not the front office). Other parents and family members should not be collecting the forms on the child’s behalf. As the year progresses, the children will continue preparing for their Sacramental celebrations. Let us all keep them, their families and the staff guiding them in our prayers.

 

Project Compassion

We begin to reflect ever more on the suffering that Jesus was about to face, and we take time to consider ways that we can live better and reduce the suffering of those around us. As a Catholic school, we are strong in our support of Caritas and Project Compassion. Thank you for assisting your child/ren in making contributions to their Project Compassion. Could you please ensure compassion boxes are returned to the school office during Week 9, Term 1. We appreciate your support.

 

Absentees Reminder & School Attendance

We ask all parents and carers to set the expectation of daily attendance, establish good morning routines that ensure students arrive to school on time. Please ensure that any absence is communicated promptly to the school before 9am to ensure that your child is accounted for. Please do not to use Seesaw messenger to notify for attendance related communication and please do not wait for a message from the school. Absences can be reported to the school by:

• Logging the absence, via the school website

Whilst holidays during school term is not encouraged, if you have planned absences of five days or more, an Extended Absence Form must be completed and approved by the Principal, prior to the absence. This form is available here:

After School Play Guidelines

As we’ve been fortunate to enjoy warm weather this term, we understand the temptation for children to stay and play on school grounds after the school day ends. While this may seem harmless, there are several important safety considerations that we, as a school, must consider ensuring the well-being of all students at Christ the King School.

At the end of the day, we do not have staff on duty to supervise students who remain on the premises. This raises concerns about student safety, as we cannot always determine which children are with a parent and which are not. Additionally, there are risks such as children running into the carparks or injuring themselves on playground equipment. Many staff members are also working in classrooms or attending parent and staff meetings at this time, so having children playing ball games or riding bikes through the quadrangle is not ideal and safe. We ask you to please supervise your children once you have collected them from class.

Our staff will gently ask students to step away from the equipment if they see them playing on the playground, outside of supervised hours. Please do not be concerned or upset if your child is reminded, this is simply part of our commitment to ensuring every child is safe. While our school grounds are certainly inviting, our students can enjoy them during designated play times within school hours. We encourage parents to take advantage of the nearby local parks for after-school play if desired. Ensuring the safety and care of our students is always our top priority. As such, we kindly request that parents refrain from allowing children to use the play equipment or engage in ball games etc after school.

 

Harmony Day

Harmony Day is a day of celebration dedicated to promoting Australia’s cultural diversity and fostering a sense of inclusion and harmony. We appreciate the many different cultures that attend our school and hope to promote the values of respect and inclusivity. On Friday 20 March (Week 7), we will be celebrating Harmony Day as a whole school. We encourage all students and staff to wear ‘orange’ or dress in cultural attire/traditional national dress for the day. Students must wear comfortable and appropriate shoes, such as sneakers. Icy poles will be provided by our wonderful P&F during lunchtime with no donation required. Next week, buddy classes will get together to deepen their understanding of Harmony Day and why it is important.

 

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher(s) on Wednesday 1 April (Week 9), starting at 12.30pm. Parent-teacher interviews will be conducted in ten-minute intervals across all year groups (K-6). If you have already met with your child’s classroom teacher, there is no need to book in another meeting time. To ensure the afternoon runs smoothly, we kindly ask that parents and guardians adhere to the ten-minute time limit. An online booking system will be made available to you tomorrow, so please ensure you check your emails for the booking link. Please be advised that our school will finish at 12pm on this day. If you cannot collect your child/ren at 12pm, they will be supervised at school, until 3pm by our staff.

 

Year 4 Seton Experience Day

On Thursday 26th February, our Year Four students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Seton Excursion, where they experienced a day in the life of a Seton College high school student. Throughout the day, they participated in a range of engaging, hands-on lessons including woodwork, art, sport, science and drama. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to explore new learning areas, develop their skills, and gain a glimpse into what high school life is like.

 

School Fees Reminder

All families should now have received their school fees. If you have not yet received yours, please contact me as soon as possible, via email accounts@ctk.wa.edu.au

Thank you to those families who have already returned their payment plan forms, it is greatly appreciated. For those who have not yet returned their form, please ensure it is returned by 13 March, 2026 so that payment plans can be set up on time. Payment plan forms can be returned in person, or via email. All payment plan forms must be returned, even if you intend to make payments via BPAY. If you intend to pay the full annual fee, payment is due by 31 March, 2026.

Concession Cards

Families claiming a concession discount must complete a concession form each year and provide a copy of your current concession card, to receive the full concession card discount on fees.

Seton Sibling Discount

Forms for the Seton sibling discount should have already been returned. These are required to be filled out every year for the sibling discount to be applied to your school fees.

Thank you to everyone who has already submitted their forms. Your cooperation helps ensure fees and discounts are applied correctly and on time.

 

CEWA Easter Colouring in Competition

This Easter, CEWA is once again encouraging children from Catholic schools across the state to submit an entry for the CEWA Easter Colouring In Competition. This is a great way to provide a creative opportunity for those children who are interested. Please visit https://www.cewa.edu.au/easter/

 

Term 1 Concludes

A gentle reminder that Term 1 concludes on Thursday 2 April, 2026. Term 2 commences on Monday 20 April, 2026.

A Message from our P&F President – Michelle Van Der Stroom

It has been a wonderful start to the year for our P&F community. Thank you again to all the families who joined us for Evening on the Green — it was a fantastic evening and a great way to bring our community together. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Little Gelato Cart for their generous donation following our Evening on the Green event. We are incredibly grateful for the support of local businesses who help make community events like this possible.

As we head towards Easter, the P&F has some fun activities planned for our students.
Students in Pre-Kindy to Pre-Primary are invited to take part in our Easter Colouring Competition, while students in Years 1–6 can test their guessing skills in our “Guess How Many Eggs in the Jar” competition. We will also be running our Easter Raffle, with some fantastic prizes up for grabs. All winners will be announced at the school assembly on Wednesday 2 April, so keep an eye out for entries and raffle tickets coming through soon!

Our next P&F Meeting will be held on Wednesday 25 March, and all parents and caregivers are warmly welcome to attend. It’s a great opportunity to hear about upcoming events, share ideas, and get involved in supporting our school community.

We are always looking for volunteers to help throughout the year — whether it’s assisting at an event, helping with a stall, baking for a fundraiser, or simply lending a hand where needed. Many roles require only a small amount of time, but make a big difference to the experience of our students and families. If you would like to get involved, keep an eye on our P&F Hub where upcoming events and volunteer opportunities will be shared throughout the year:
