Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members,

Welcome to Week 6!

As we move through the middle of Term 2, it has been wonderful to witness the continued growth of our students in their learning, confidence and relationships with others. Our school community continues to thrive thanks to the support, encouragement and partnership of our families. Thank you for the important role you play in the life of our wonderful school!

Thank you to those students and families who attended the Sacrament of Confirmation celebration last weekend. It was a beautiful occasion for our students and families, and we are incredibly proud of the reverence, commitment and maturity shown by all the candidates. A very special thank you to Miss de Laeter and Miss Mickel for the wonderful job they did preparing our students for this important sacrament. We also thank Father Isidore and Germaine Matison from the CtK Parish for all their help, guidance and support.

Keeping Our Year 4 Students and Teachers in your Prayers

We ask our school community to keep our Year 4 students in your prayers as they prepare to celebrate their First Eucharist on Sunday 7 June, at Christ the King Church at 10.15am.

This is a significant milestone in the faith journey of our students, and we pray that this special sacrament brings them closer to God and deepens their understanding of His love and presence in their lives. May this be a joyful and blessed occasion for all students and their families.

Interschool Cross Country Carnival

Our students have represented Christ the King School with great pride at our Interschool Cross Country last week! Their excellent sportsmanship, teamwork and positive attitude have been commendable. Huge thanks to Ms McLinden, Miss King, Mr Geaney and Miss Williams for all their help and support! Congratulations to all of our students for their amazing efforts on the course and an extra special celebration to our school for taking home the Overall Shield! What an incredible achievement!

National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday 27 May, our students participated in National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS), a wonderful Australia-wide initiative celebrating reading and literacy.

Students and teachers across the country joined together to read this year’s featured story, Luna Roo. The story follows Luna, a playful and curious kangaroo, as she explores friendship, belonging and courage.

Students enjoyed shared reading experiences, followed by engaging classroom activities inspired by the book. National Simultaneous Storytime provided a wonderful opportunity to foster imagination, creativity, and a lifelong love of reading!

We encourage families to continue celebrating reading at home by sharing stories together and discussing Luna’s adventures with your child.

Respectful Communication in Our School Community

At Christ the King School, we are committed to fostering a caring and respectful community that reflects our Catholic values of love, dignity, compassion and respect. Families are reminded to always communicate thoughtfully and respectfully, both in person and online, including through social media and group messaging platforms.

We encourage parents to raise concerns directly with the school, be mindful of confidentiality, and model positive and empathetic communication for our children. By working together with kindness and understanding, we can continue to create a safe, supportive, and faith-filled environment for every student.

Student Safety During Drop Off and Pick Up

The safety and wellbeing of our students remains our highest priority. We kindly remind all families to remain vigilant during drop off and pick up times and to follow all school traffic and parking procedures.

Recently, staff and parents have observed children moving through the car park unsupervised, including crossing between vehicles and running through traffic areas. As our car park is a shared zone, we ask our parents and caregivers to always supervise children and remind them to use safe pedestrian practices.

Drivers are also reminded to exercise caution and remain alert, particularly during busy periods after the school bell.

Please support us by reminding children to:

Check carefully for traffic
Walk calmly and safely
Use designated crossings where possible
Avoid crossing between parked cars
Stay attentive and leave the grounds promptly and safely

Thank you for your continued cooperation in helping keep our school community safe.

Staff Parking

A gentle reminder that the staff parking area at the front of the school is reserved for ‘staff members only’. We kindly ask families and visitors to avoid parking in this area unless using the designated ACROD parking bays and displaying a valid permit.

Uniform Expectations

We would like to congratulate our students on the pride they continue to show in wearing the school uniform so well. When enrolling at Christ the King School, families agree to support the school’s expectations and procedures, including adherence to the uniform policy. Recently, a small number of students have been wearing non-uniform items including incorrect shorts, shoes, jackets, pants, items of jewellery and incorrect tights. Please also remember that children should only be wearing their sports uniform on their allocated sports days and if they are participating in Running Club. There are a few students wearing their sports uniform when they shouldn’t be.

Over the coming weeks, staff will continue to monitor uniform standards and remind students of the correct requirements. Thank you for your ongoing support in maintaining the high standards of presentation at our school.

Kindy and Pre-Kindy Enrolments for 2027

I am currently conducting many interviews for Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten enrolments for 2027. I also ask families to help spread the word throughout our Parish and wider community. If you know families who may be interested in joining Christ the King School, please encourage them to submit an application promptly to avoid missing out on a place.

Attendance Matters

Regular school attendance is important from the very beginning of a child’s education journey. Consistent attendance supports children in building friendships, developing routines, and engaging successfully in learning experiences.

Research shows that students who frequently miss school in the early years are more likely to experience academic difficulties later on. Missing just one day per fortnight can have a significant impact on a child’s learning progress.

How families can help:

Ensure your child attends school every day unless they are unwell.
Establish consistent morning routines to support a calm start to the day.
Address any concerns or difficulties with your child’s teacher early.
Schedule family holidays during school vacation periods where possible.
Arrange medical and dental appointments outside school hours or late in the day when possible.

2027 School Term Changes

Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) has advised all Catholic school communities that a three-week mid-year break will be introduced from the 2027 school year.

Following consultation with Catholic school staff and community members in 2025, CEWA confirmed that all schools will transition to this new arrangement from 2027 onward. To support this change, schools may make minor adjustments to daily timetables to ensure students continue to receive the same amount of instructional time as in previous years. These adjustments will not impact the quality of teaching, learning, or pastoral care programs provided to students.

Keeping your child’s records up to date is very important for our school and staff. As circumstances change, please make sure the school is informed and has your current contact information. Please take a moment to check that both your details and your child’s emergency contact details are accurate and up to date.

Our wonderful Year 3 students are working very hard to master cursive writing
The Year 2 students have enjoyed reading in the sunshine in the quadrangle this week
Handball continues to be a favourite game for our students to play before school in the mornings

Welcome to Week 6!

Sacrament of Confirmation

Last Sunday, 24 May, our Year 6 students received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Leading up to this special day our Year 1 students created special gifts for this special occasion. The Year 1 children have been learning all about the importance of the Sacrament of Confirmation and its meaning, so they wanted to create something special for the Year 6 students. The Sacrament of Confirmation continues, strengthens and confirms the gifts of the Holy Spirit first received at our Baptism.

Building Strong Partnerships for Student Success

At our school, we deeply value the positive partnerships we share with our families. Open, respectful communication between home and school plays a vital role in supporting each child’s learning and wellbeing.

We warmly encourage parents to reach out and arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher if you have any concerns, questions, or queries—no matter how small they may seem. Teachers are always more than happy to work alongside families, but they can only offer support if they are aware of any concerns. Early conversations often lead to the best outcomes for our students and help ensure a consistent, collaborative approach.

Fostering positive relationships between home and school also helps children feel secure, supported, and confident in their learning journey.

Talking Positively About the School Day

One of the most powerful ways to support your child is through the conversations you have at home. Encouraging positive, open discussions about their day helps children feel valued and strengthens their connection to school.

Some simple tips:

Use a positive and calm tone when asking about school.
Show genuine interest and listen carefully to your child’s responses.
Avoid rushing conversations. Sometimes children need time to open up.
Model positive language when talking about school, teachers, and peers.

Questions to Ask Your Child About Their Day

Instead of “How was your day?”, which often receives a one-word answer, try more specific prompts:

What was something that made you smile today?
What was the most interesting thing you learned?
Who did you spend time with at recess?
What was something you found tricky today?
Can you teach me something you learned?
What are you looking forward to tomorrow?

These questions encourage children to reflect, share, and build communication skills.

Supporting Your Child in Making Friends

Friendships are an important part of school life and contribute greatly to a child’s sense of belonging. Here are some ways you can support your child:

Encourage them to include others and show kindness.
Talk about what being a good friend looks like (listening, sharing, taking turns).
Practise social skills through role-play at home.
Encourage participation in group activities, clubs, or sports.
Help them understand that friendships take time and effort to grow.
Support them in navigating small conflicts calmly and respectfully.

Together, by maintaining open communication, encouraging positive conversations, and nurturing social skills, we can create a supportive and connected school community where every child thrives.

Pupil Free Day & Public Holiday

Just a friendly reminder that this Friday 29 May is a Pupil Free Day. While students have the day off, staff will be engaged in a full day of Professional Learning. Monday 1 June is a Public Holiday in Western Australia. Students will return to school on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.

Unwell students

As we move into the colder months, we kindly ask that unwell students are kept at home. If a child becomes unwell during the school day or presents symptoms of illness, our staff and school nurse will contact parents to arrange for them to go home. Sending sick children to school can affect the health and wellbeing of other students, staff, and their families. We greatly appreciate your understanding and support in helping us maintain a healthy school environment. For further guidance on how long children should stay home when sick, please refer to the recommendations on the WA Health website: https://www.health.wa.gov.au

A Message from Our Year 6 Head Girl and Head Boy – Charlotte & Caelan

Our fabulous Year 6 leaders, Charlotte and Caelan, will be interviewing our staff throughout the year so that we all can get to know each other well. This week they interviewed Mrs Wright, our wonderful Year 5 Teacher! Find out more about Mrs Wright below:

How long have you been teaching for?
25 years!

Have you had any other jobs before teaching?
Sales assistance in kitchenware at Myer, swimming instructor at a summer camp in New York and a nanny in London.

What are some of your strengths?
I enjoy connecting with and listening to people, being welcoming and I love a challenge.

What’s your passion?
Family, travelling and learning new things that are important to me.

What’s your favourite food?
Chocolates are my favourites, but I enjoy anything. Although I particularly love Italian and French cuisine.

What’s your favourite school value?
I value respect highly. I believe it is important to treat others as you would like to be treated, and consider their point of view, thoughts and feelings.

What’s your favourite sport?
Basketball, cycling (I’m looking for forward to the Giro d’ Italia and the Tour de France), and tennis.

Do you have a pet?
Not at the moment, I have only had a goldfish.

P&F Update – Building Our School Community Together

One of the wonderful things about our school community is the way families come together to support, connect and create memorable experiences for our children.

A strong school community is built through connection, shared experiences and the many small ways families come together to support one another. The P&F is proud to play a part in creating opportunities for our children, parents, caregivers and staff to feel connected, welcomed and involved.

This term we are celebrating Purple Day for Epilepsy WA, our much-anticipated P&F Disco, and other community initiatives throughout the term.

The magic behind these moments comes from our incredible parent community. Every helping hand, fresh idea, hour volunteered, or quiet contribution behind the scenes helps make our school the special place it is.

As we move into another busy and exciting term, we would love to welcome more families into our P&F community. There is no expectation to commit to everything — even helping occasionally, attending a meeting, or volunteering at a single event can make a meaningful difference and is a wonderful way to connect with other families.
