Welcome to Week 4!
It is hard to believe we are already into Week 4 of Term 3! It has been another busy few weeks across our school, with our students continuing to settle into their learning and embrace the many opportunities available to them.
Celebrating Our Sensory Bush Tucker Garden
A very exciting event happened today with the official opening of our ‘Sensory Bush Tucker Garden’. We were delighted to officially open our beautiful Habitat, Sensory and Bush Tucker Garden at Christ the King School.
The garden is so much more than a beautiful new addition to our school. It represents generosity, sustainability, inclusion, learning and our responsibility to care for God’s creation.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mel and James, members of our wonderful school community, who generously shared their time, expertise, resources and passion to bring this project to life. Their generosity has created a very special space that will be enjoyed by our students for many years to come.
The garden features native plants, bush tucker, sensory experiences, biodiversity, recycled materials and wheelchair-accessible pathways, providing an inclusive outdoor learning environment for all our students. It will give our children opportunities to explore nature, learn about our local environment and develop a deeper appreciation of Aboriginal knowledge and connection to Country.
The garden also beautifully reflects our Catholic identity and our commitment to caring for our common home, inspired by Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’. It provides our students with a practical opportunity to learn what it means to be caretakers of creation.
A very special highlight of the opening was welcoming Costa Georgiadis from Gardening Australia to Christ the King to officially open the garden. We were also privileged to welcome Mayor of Fremantle, Ben Lawver; Deputy Executive Director of Catholic Education, Julie Hornby; Eveline Masco, Strategy and Sustainability Consultant from CEWA; Michelle Kurtis, SAC Chair; and Angela La Rosa from our P&F.
We would also like to acknowledge Mrs Tilzey for working alongside Mel and James and helping bring their vision to life.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making this wonderful space possible. We look forward to seeing our students explore, discover, learn and connect with nature in our new garden!
Open Night 2026
We have made the decision to cancel our 2026 Open Night due to the current roofing issues and the temporary relocation of some classes. Thank you for your understanding and support!
CEWA Parent Code of Conduct
All members of our community are expected to conduct themselves in line with the School Code of Conduct, which essentially sets out a minimum standard of conduct for all here at the school. To commence Term Three, a Parent Code of Conduct was introduced, which has been developed for all schools in the CEWA system. This Parent Code of Conduct will provide specific information for parents about how they can continue to support their child and the community here at Christ the King School.
The Right to Disconnect
A gentle reminder that at Christ the King School, our staff are deeply committed to providing the best possible learning experiences and care for our students. We also recognise the importance of supporting staff wellbeing and maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal life.
We ask families to please be mindful that, unless a matter is urgent, staff may take up to 48 hours to respond to emails or Seesaw messages. During school hours, teachers are focused on teaching and caring for students and may not be able to respond immediately.
Staff also have the right to disconnect from work-related communication outside their normal working hours, including from 4pm to 8.15am, on weekends and on non-working days for part-time staff.
We greatly appreciate your understanding and support in allowing our staff to switch off from work and enjoy time with their families and communities.
Pupil Free Day
Please note that we have one Pupil Free Day scheduled for Term Three which is on Friday 25 September 2026 – the final day of Term Three.
WA Student Assistance Payment
The WA Student Assistance Payment supports parents and carers with cost-of-living pressures associated with sending children to school.
All Western Australian students from Kindergarten to Year 12 with a valid WA student number are eligible to apply.
Families can claim:
- $250 for each secondary student
- $150 for each primary school or Kindergarten student
The payment will be available through the ServiceWA app. Parents and carers are encouraged to set up or update their ServiceWA account and ensure they have an active Digital ID.
Applications open on Monday 20 July 2026.
All claims must be submitted by Friday 25 September 2026.

2027 Three-Year-Old Pre-Kindergarten Enrolments Now Open!
Are you looking for a nurturing and engaging start to your child’s educational journey? Enrolments for our 2027 Three-Year-Old Pre-Kindergarten program are now open! Our Pre-Kindy program operates four days per week, providing children with the opportunity to learn, play and grow in a warm, faith-filled environment. Through play-based learning, children develop confidence, independence and the foundational skills they need for future success at school.
In our Pre-Kindergarten program, children will:
- Build friendships and develop positive social skills.
- Grow in confidence and independence.
- Explore early literacy and numeracy through hands-on, play-based experiences.
- Develop language and communication skills.
- Foster creativity through art, music, movement and imaginative play.
- Strengthen fine and gross motor skills.
- Discover God’s love through prayer, stories and everyday acts of kindness.

2027 Student Intentions
Families of students currently in Kindy to Year 5 are asked to advise the Principal in writing, if they are not intending to return to Christ the King School, in 2027.
Providing this information as early as possible assists the school with future planning, staffing, and class organisation. Families are asked to provide at least one term’s notice, where possible.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we begin another wonderful term at Christ the King School.
Staffing Updates
Mr Andrew Kelly will be returning to Christ the King School on Monday 24 August (Week 6), following the approval of his leave extension by CEWA.
Mrs Pauline Burwood will continue teaching the Year 1 Gold class until Thursday 27 August (Week 6).
Mrs Lisa Luelf will resume her Year 1 teaching role from Monday 31 August (Week 7). We thank Pauline for all her help and support in teaching the Year 1 students. Huge thanks to Lisa L for stepping into the Assistant Principal role.
Mrs Rebecca Sgro will conclude her time as Finance Officer, this Friday. We thank Rebecca for her contribution and wish her all the very best for the future.
Mrs Laura Martinez-Vinhal will commence in her new Finance Officer role on Monday. We look forward to welcoming her to the position.
Mrs Fran Hagan has advised that she will retire from her position on 4 September. We thank Fran for the many years of dedication to our students, staff and families! Fran is currently on LSL.
Ms Caterina D’Angelo has made the decision to resign after almost 30 years of service at CtK. We are extremely grateful for Caterina’s many years of dedication and contribution to our school community.
Ms Margaret McLinden has decided to retire at the end of the school year, after 23 years at CtK. We sincerely thank Marg for her commitment and service to our students, staff and families.
Ms Andrea Mangan has resigned from her position as School Nurse, with her final day being Friday 4 September. We thank Andrea for the care and support she has provided to our students and school community.
Mr Dom has advised that he will retire at the conclusion of the 2026 school year. We will be advertising this position shortly!
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Mrs Sophie Barrett and her husband Josh, on the safe arrival of their son, Harvey. Mum, Dad and Harvey are all doing wonderfully, and we know they are enjoying this special time together as a new family. On behalf of our entire school community, we send our heartfelt congratulations, prayers and every blessing to the Barrett family as they begin this exciting new chapter.

Working in partnership with you is one of the greatest strengths of our Christ the King community, and together we continue to create a school where every child is known, challenged, supported and loved.
