Welcome to Week Two
Welcome back to Term Three!
I hope you had a restful and enjoyable school holiday break with your loved ones. The start of a new term can bring fresh energy, and I trust the transition has been smooth for you all. Holidays offer a valuable chance to slow down, step away from routine, and enjoy more meaningful time together, something we all benefit from.
Term Three Planning:
During this term, academic updates will be communicated through Term Overviews posted on Seesaw, with an open night scheduled later in the term. We have a variety of engaging learning activities and events planned, including incursions, excursions, assemblies, and carnivals.
Term Three Class Overviews:
Term Three Overviews from each class will be sent to all families via Seesaw, after 3pm on Friday. These documents outline the planned teaching and learning for the term, along with other important information. Staying informed through these overviews helps strengthen the partnership between home and school, ensuring the best outcomes for our students. We thank our teachers for their dedication and hard work!
2025 Religious Education Assessment (REA):
In Catholic schools across Western Australia, students in Years 3, 5, and 9 participate in a statewide online assessment of Religious Education. Religious Education is regarded as our first and foremost Learning Area at Christ the King. It is timetabled daily and is thoughtfully integrated across other areas of the curriculum throughout the school day. This term, students in Year Three and Year Five will take part in the Religious Education Assessment. This assessment provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of key concepts learned in Religious Education. It also offers valuable insights for staff into both individual and cohort strengths, as well as areas that may need further support or focus.
The RE assessment at Christ the King is scheduled for:
Years 3 & 5: Week 3 – Wednesday 6 August, 2025
** Please ensure your child brings their headphones to school on this date and they are in working order.
Absenteeism:
As we enter the cold and flu season, we kindly request parents to keep their children at home if they are unwell. As we settle into the colder months, it’s common to see an increase in seasonal illnesses. To help prevent the spread of germs, we kindly ask that children who are unwell remain at home, even if they are eager to attend school. From our experience, symptoms often return by mid-morning, even if medication is given before school, making it difficult for students to fully participate and potentially spreading illness to others. Please notify the school office via email or phone before 9am to inform us of your child’s absence. Your proactive communication is appreciated; please do not wait for a message from the school. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. We appreciate your support in keeping our school community healthy and well during the winter season.
Communication Guidelines at CtK:
Parents and carers play a vital role in their children’s education, and a strong partnership between home and school enhances their learning journey. Clear communication is key to keeping our community informed about what’s happening at school. If you need to discuss anything related to your child, please always contact your child’s class or specialist teacher first. Teachers will always contact relevant parents directly regarding any school matters.
Please remember that our teachers will not be responding to seesaw messages or emails after 4pm. Each teacher has set their “work hours” on seesaw to ensure consistency across the team. Unless it’s an urgent matter, please allow up to 48 hours for a response to emails and seesaw messages. Teachers are not expected to respond on weekends (Saturday or Sunday) or during school holidays. Part-time staff are not required to respond to any form of communication on their non-working days.
It is important to note that we all have lives beyond school, and many of us are parents, family members, and friends. Just like other professionals, we need time to focus on those roles outside of work hours without interruptions. We are very fortunate to have such a supportive group of parents and carers at CtK, and I’m confident that you will continue to assist our staff by keeping these factors in mind when reaching out to them.
Student Uniform Compliance:
As we begin this new term, it is important to remind all students to adhere to the correct uniform guidelines each day and to wear it proudly. Our school uniform sets us apart from other schools. Staff will be ensuring students are wearing the correct school uniform including the correct shoes and socks. Socks with sporting brands/logos are not permitted. All hair should be neatly tied back. Please ensure all items are properly labelled to facilitate their return if misplaced. We applaud those students who consistently display pride in wearing their school uniform. We also appreciate parents’ efforts in preparing their children for Term 3.
Mid-Year Break Update:
Catholic Education WA (CEWA) has announced plans to introduce a three-week mid-year break across its 150 schools, starting from the 2027 academic year. This change will align our school calendar with many other Independent Catholic schools and is supported by strong research highlighting the benefits for teaching, learning, and overall wellbeing. As CEWA moves forward with this initiative, they are seeking input from students, parents, staff, and the wider school community. Pre-service students at CtK:
This term, we are pleased to welcome three pre-service teachers from the University of Notre Dame Australia, to our school community. Miss Figliomeni, Miss Rangitoheriri and Miss Parisella have joined us as part of their final teaching placements in Year 6, Year 4 and Year 2. A very warm welcome to you all! We are delighted to have you with us this term!

Maddison Heady Inspires Students and Staff at CtK:
Yesterday, we were honoured to welcome Maddison Heady, Disability Inclusion Advocate, to Christ the King School. Maddison ran a series of engaging and thought-provoking sessions with our Year 3–6 students, sharing her personal story, challenges, and triumphs in living with disability. Her message of resilience, inclusion, and empowerment resonated strongly with our students, who asked thoughtful questions and reflected deeply on her experiences. Following the student sessions, Maddison also led a professional learning workshop for all staff, including our education assistants and specialist teachers. The session provided valuable insights into how we can continue to support all learners with empathy, practical strategies, and a strong commitment to inclusive education.

One Big Voice
The One Big Voice Festival at RAC Arena on Friday, August 29, 2025, commencing at 12noon is getting closer and our students are working hard to learn their parts!
This wonderful choral festival promotes a love of singing, friendship, and acceptance and develops relationships with other children who share a love of music.
Tickets
Parents, carers, grandparents and friends are encouraged to attend this Festival. Tickets are on sale from June 17th and can be purchased through Ticketek online, RAC Arena or follow the links on the website: onebigvoice.com.au. Last Friday I sent home an event plan so you can see where our school will be positioned, and you can purchase tickets in the section directly above us. We are in section A2.
Subsidised tickets – these are available for parents who would otherwise be unable to attend the concert. We would love for each student to have an audience member present. Email Sandy at tickets@onebigvoice.com.au She will give you a code which will enable parents to get two $10 tickets in Silver or Bronze (This price covers Ticketek fees only).

A Message from our School Nurse – Ms Andrea Mangan
Cold Weather, Warm Kids! ❄️
As we settle into the middle of Term 3, it’s hard to ignore how chilly and wet the weather has been lately. With the colder months well and truly upon us, we want to gently remind parents and carers of the importance of sending children to school dressed appropriately for the season — think warm layers, school jackets, and dry shoes and socks.
We often hear concerns from families about children picking up bugs and illnesses during the school term. While it’s true that colds and viruses circulate more during winter, how children are dressed can play a big part in keeping their immune systems strong. Being consistently cold or wet, especially during outdoor play or wet-weather transitions, can place extra stress on the body — making it more vulnerable to illness. So as parents – you can help defend off these colds and viruses by ensuring your kids are warm.
Staying warm and dry not only helps children feel more comfortable and focused at school but also supports their overall wellbeing and ability to fight off those inevitable winter bugs.
Thank you for helping us support your children’s health by making sure they’re wrapped up and ready to tackle whatever the WA winter throws our way.

SAVE THE DATE! The P&F Musical Bingo Night (18+) – Saturday 8th November at South Fremantle Footy Club.
Tickets will go on sale on Monday 8th September, so have your gang and table name ready to go so you don’t miss out on a spot!!
Individual tickets will be available for those not on a table and you will be allocated a seat at an open table. Don’t forget to get your funkiest 80’s/90’s costumes ready, as we will have a prize for best dressed on the night! An assortment of yummy platters from Bennys Bar & Cafe will be available to pre-order via our Hub and delivered to your table on the night.
We are now asking for volunteers to please sign up for the Term 3 events, which are now all up on the Hub. Helpers are needed for the Father’s Day Stalls (Tues & Wed), Father’s Day BBQ, Open Night Sausage Sizzle and the CtK Day – Foam Obstacle Course (Term 4 event). If you give us a hand and spare an hour or two, it would be very much appreciated.
Our only P&F meeting of Term 3 will be held on Wednesday 6th August at 5-6pm in the Library. We will be discussing and locking in the details for all of the Term 3 events & fundraisers and hope to see you there.
