Welcome to Term 3 Week 6!

As we reach Week 6 of Term 3, it is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the term. It has been another busy and rewarding few weeks at Christ the King School, with our students continuing to embrace their learning, friendships and opportunities to grow!

Our Nature, Sensory and Bush Tucker Garden

A very special highlight has been the official opening of our Nature, Sensory and Bush Tucker Garden. This wonderful addition to our school grounds provides our students with opportunities to connect with nature, explore biodiversity and sustainability, and engage in meaningful outdoor learning.

We are incredibly grateful to the generous parent volunteers, Mel and James, who designed, funded and gifted this beautiful space to our school community. A very special thank you also to Costa Georgiadis for joining us to officially open the garden. His enthusiasm for gardening, sustainability and learning through nature was infectious, and our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Rewilding Suburbia Book Launch

2026 CEWA QCE Award

We are thrilled to share that Christ the King School has been nominated in the 2026 CEWA QCE Awards! Now, we need your help to win the People’s Choice Award!

The QCE Awards recognise outstanding programs and initiatives across Catholic schools in Western Australia that support the vision of creating Christ-centred, student-focused and engaged learning environments.

Our nomination is for the Christ the King School Living Classroom: Sensory, Bush Tucker and Wildlife Garden – an incredible initiative that reflects our commitment to inclusion, sustainability, learning and caring for creation.

Our Living Classroom

The Living Classroom has transformed an approximately 150m² under-utilised area of our school into an inclusive outdoor learning environment where every student can learn, connect and care for creation.

Designed as an all-abilities bush tucker, sensory and wildlife habitat, the Living Classroom embodies the principles of Laudato Si’ through ecological education, accessibility and stewardship.

The space features:

🌱 More than 257 plants across 35 species
🌿 Accessible pathways and sensory experiences
🪶 A yarning circle
🐝 Diverse wildlife habitats
🔥 A communal fire pit
🌏 Authentic opportunities for students to explore, discover and learn in nature

More than just a garden, the Living Classroom is a place where students can learn, belong and care. It is a wonderful reflection of the creativity, dedication and collaboration of our students, staff, families and wider community.

Thank you to Mrs Carroll

A heartfelt thank you and congratulations to Mrs Jackie Carroll for her outstanding leadership of our school Rock Band and One Big Voice Choir. Jackie has generously shared her time, expertise, and passion for music in preparing our students for these performances. Her dedication and talent provide invaluable opportunities

for our children to develop their musical skills and confidence. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a committed and gifted music teacher and team as part of our school community. Congratulations to all of our students who participated! You are all rock stars!!

 

Numero Workshops at CtK

Last week, students in Years 4 to 6 participated in engaging Numero Workshops, which were a great success. These sessions provided valuable opportunities for students to strengthen their mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills in a fun and interactive way. A special thank you to Mrs Gumina for organising the

workshops and ensuring everything ran so smoothly.

 

Speak Up Challenge Success

On 11 August, Alexia Ferns (Year 4), Oliver Roberts (Year 5), and CJ Wayne (Year 6) proudly represented Christ the King School in the first heat of the Speak Up Challenge. All three students shone as they confidently delivered their speeches and were outstanding ambassadors for our school. Their preparation, courage, and presentation skills were evident throughout the competition. Huge thanks to Mrs Danae Doecke for co-ordinating all of this!

We are especially delighted to congratulate CJ, who has progressed to the Semi-Finals, which will be held on 31 August. Congratulations to Alexia, Oliver, and CJ on their wonderful achievements and for representing Christ the King with such pride and excellence.

 

SNAFL 2026

A huge congratulations to our SNAFL teams on their fantastic performances on Friday! Our Soccer team celebrated an impressive win, while our Netball and AFL teams also gave it their all and represented our school with great pride. Well done to all our students for demonstrating such wonderful sportsmanship, teamwork, perseverance and school spirit throughout the day. Your positive attitude and commitment were fantastic to see!

A very special thank you to our amazing staff who generously gave their time to coach, support and encourage our teams, as well as to our wonderful parent volunteer, Mr Zlendic, for his valued coaching and support. We are so grateful for everyone who helped make the day such a success!

 

2026 Catholic Arts Angelico Art Exhibition

On the weekend, it was the special viewing session for students, families and the broader school communities at the 2026 Catholic Arts Angelico Art Exhibition. The session was extremely well attended and my committee member colleagues and I all commented on what an excellent vibe there was from all who attended. It was truly wonderful to see students and their families engaging with their exhibited artworks and spending time viewing what other primary students have been creating. I had many conversations with family members who were excited about seeing what lies on the horizon for their children as they progress through primary school and continue studying the Visual Arts into secondary school, with the exhibition having two defined spaces for both primary students and secondary students.

Our Christ the King students represented our school beautifully and the looks on their faces when seeing their exhibited art was priceless! I’m so immensely proud of them and encouraged by their new aspirations to focus on what comes next for them creatively.

The exhibition remains open for one more week at the Forrest Centre – 221 St Georges Terrace, Perth, before being dismantled next Saturday, 29th August (Friday is the final viewing opportunity).

2027 Three-Year-Old Pre-Kindergarten Enrolments Now Open!

Are you looking for a nurturing and engaging start to your child’s educational journey? Enrolments for our 2027 Three-Year-Old Pre-Kindergarten program are now open! Our Pre-Kindy program operates four days per week, providing children with the opportunity to learn, play and grow in a warm, faith-filled environment. Through play-based learning, children develop confidence, independence and the foundational skills they need for future success at school.

In our Pre-Kindergarten program, children will:

• Build friendships and develop positive social skills.
• Grow in confidence and independence.
• Explore early literacy and numeracy through hands-on, play-based experiences.
• Develop language and communication skills.
• Foster creativity through art, music, movement and imaginative play.
• Strengthen fine and gross motor skills.
• Discover God’s love through prayer, stories and everyday acts of kindness.

2027 Student Intentions

Families of students currently in Kindy to Year 5 are asked to advise the Principal in writing, if they are not intending to return to Christ the King School, in 2027.

Providing this information as early as possible assists the school with future planning, staffing, and class organisation. Families are asked to provide at least one term’s notice, where possible. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we begin another wonderful term at Christ the King School.

 

Parking and Drop-Off Reminder

Finding a parking space can sometimes be challenging, particularly during busy drop-off and pick-up times. To help ensure the safety and convenience of all families, we would like to remind our community of the parking arrangements at Christ the King School.

The ECE car park is reserved for families with children in Pre-Kindy, Kindy and Pre-Primary. Families whose children are in Years 1-6 are encouraged to use the loop for drop-offs and pick-ups or to utilise legal street parking where available.

As a valued member of our school community, please be considerate of our neighbours by ensuring driveways remain clear at all times and by avoiding parking on private property.

When using the ECE car park, safety must always come first. Please use designated walkways where possible and avoid walking through the middle of the car park or behind reversing vehicles. Taking these precautions helps keep everyone safe.

We greatly appreciate the cooperation of all families in following our parking procedures. If your family is eligible to use the ECE car park, please ensure your parking pass is displayed. If you require a parking pass, please visit the Front Office to collect one.

Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us maintain a safe and respectful environment for all members of our school community.

 

Unwell students

We kindly ask that unwell students are kept at home. If a child becomes unwell during the school day or presents symptoms of illness, our staff and school nurse will contact parents to arrange for them to go home. Sending sick children to school can affect the health and wellbeing of other students, staff, and their families. We greatly appreciate your understanding and support in helping us maintain a healthy school environment. For further guidance on how long children should stay home when sick, please refer to the recommendations on the WA Health website: https://www.health.wa.gov.au

We warmly welcome Mrs Laura Martinez-Vinhal, who has commenced in her new role as our Full-Time Finance Officer. We are delighted to have Laura join our team and wish her all the very best in her new role!

We are delighted to share the wonderful news that Ms Helen King and her family are expecting a baby, due in January 2027! Helen will continue teaching with us throughout 2026 before commencing maternity leave at the end of the school year. Congratulations, Helen! We are so excited for you and your family and look forward to sharing in this very special time with you.

 

CtK Rock Band

Congratulations to our CtK Rock Band, who proudly represented our school at the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival on Tuesday 18 August at Sacred Heart College.

Our incredibly talented musicians, comprising students from Year 6, were:

• Luka – Drums
• Phin D – Keyboard
• Kaiden, Caelan and Marcello – Guitar
• Daniel – Bass
• Kayla, Penny and Charlotte – Vocals

The band made CtK proud with an energetic and enthusiastic performance, entertaining the audience and demonstrating the joy that comes from making music together. Their confidence, teamwork and passion shone through from beginning to end.

Unfortunately, Daniel was unwell and unable to perform on the night. However, showing great resilience and determination, the band worked together to find a creative solution, with Phin using professional keyboard sounds to cover the bass parts. Their adaptability and commitment ensured the performance was a great success.

What an amazing night it was!

A special thank you to Mrs Carroll and Mr May for their dedication, guidance, and support. The many rehearsal opportunities they provided helped the students develop their skills and confidence, culminating in a wonderful performance.

Our CtK Rock Band worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of what they achieved. As a school community, we are extremely proud of each and every one of you.

We look forward to seeing you rock out at the BBQ & Beats Father’s Day Event on the school oval Friday 4 September.

• Our Pre-Primary students are making wonderful progress during their daily Literacy sessions and are becoming little superstars at choral reading! It is such a joy to hear their confidence and enthusiasm as they read together each day.
• Asking your child questions such as“What was the most interesting thing you learned today?” encourages them to think more deeply about their learning.
• Reading with your child for just 10–15 minutes each day can make a wonderful difference to their vocabulary, comprehension and love of reading?
• Father’s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in September in Australia?
• The Fremantle Dockers were founded in 1994 and played their first AFL match in 1995?
• Mrs Sikaloski came into school to visit the staff and students last week and the Year 1 students were lucky enough to meet her daughter, Gianna.

What a wonderful week of activity and community we have ahead of us!

This week we’re celebrating Book Week, and it’s always fantastic to see the excitement it brings to the school. From favourite characters and creative costumes to sharing a love of stories and reading, it’s one of those special weeks that creates wonderful memories for our children.

We’re also looking forward to BBQ & Beats next Friday – another great opportunity for our families to come together, enjoy some good food and music, catch up with friends and spend time as a school community. We hope to see plenty of familiar faces there! With Father’s Day just around the corner, our Father’s Day Stalls will be held next Tuesday, giving our students the chance to choose something special for the dads, grandads and father figures in their lives.

We would also love some extra helping hands with ice creams. Our P&F activities rely on the generosity of our parent community, and volunteering doesn’t need to mean a big commitment. Even a small amount of your time makes a difference and helps us continue creating these experiences for our children. If you can lend a hand, we would love to hear from you!

And finally, on behalf of the P&F, we wish all of our wonderful dads, grandads and father figures a very happy and blessed Father’s Day. We hope you enjoy being celebrated by the little (and not-so-little!) people who think the world of you.
