From the Principal – Term 2, Week 04

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members,

A Prayer for Pope Leo XIV, Our New Holy Father

Loving God,
We thank You for the blessing of our new Pope, Leo XIV.

Grant him the grace to lead Your Church with faithfulness and strength.
May he be a guiding light for unity, a messenger of peace,
And a devoted shepherd to Your people.
Fill his heart with wisdom, courage, and compassion.
Help us to uphold him in prayer and to follow his example
In love, humility, and service.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

We are almost at the end of Week 4 and it’s been a joy to see so much great learning happening across the school. Our staff are working very hard to deliver high-quality programs and it’s been especially rewarding to visit classes and see MiniLit and Choral Reading in action. We are committed to minimising disruptions and keeping routines consistent for our students. If you ever have concerns or questions, please remember to first speak with your child’s Classroom or Specialist teacher. Open communication helps us support each child to thrive.

Sacramental Programs – Years 3, 4 & 6
Our Year 3 students have taken part in their Reconciliation Retreat & Parent/Student Workshop and our students are currently receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation – what a special time for them!

Our Years 4’s will have their Sacramental Retreat and Workshop soon, led by the wonderful 24/7 Youth Ministry team. Our Year 6 cohort had their Sacramental Retreat and Parent/Student Workshop during the week. Thank you to our staff and parents for your support. Please keep our students in your prayers as they prepare for their Sacraments.

  • Sacrament of Confirmation – Sunday 8 June, 10am at Christ the King Church.
  • Sacrament of Holy Communion – Sunday 22 June, 10am at Christ the King Church.

Cross Country
What a fantastic day we had at our Cross Country Carnival on Thursday 8 May! Thank you to Ms Marg McLinden for organising such a successful event and to our amazing staff and parent volunteers who made it all possible. Running Club continues each Thursday morning on the school oval, with a coffee van onsite for parents. Best of luck to our students competing at tomorrow’s ASCS Interschool Carnival – we are all cheering you on! Go CtK!!!!

Mother’s Day 2025

The Mother’s Day Stalls was a great success, thanks to the dedication of our P&F team. On Friday 9 May, we hosted the Mother’s Day classroom visits and a morning tea coordinated by the P&F. The atmosphere around the school was warm, with many Mum’s enjoying a hot cuppa and delicious treats. Huge thanks to Suraya and her team for creating such a lovely event. It was wonderful to see the Dad’s and Grandad’s help on the morning too! What a great community we have at CtK!

National Simultaneous Storytime
On Wednesday 21 May, our students in their classrooms, joined schools across Australia to enjoy ‘The Truck Cat’ by Deborah Frenkel, as part of National Simultaneous Storytime. It was a lovely way to celebrate Australian authors and the joy of reading together!

Reminders & Housekeeping

Absences
If your child is unwell, please let the school office know by 9am via phone or email. There’s no need to wait for a message from us. Thank you for helping us keep everyone healthy this season.

Attendance & Extended Leave
Consistent attendance is key to your child’s learning and overall progress. If your family is planning to be away for five or more school days, please complete an Extended Absence Form. This form is available from the school office, on our school website or can be downloaded here. All extended absences must be submitted in advance and approved by the Principal. Thank you for helping us support your child’s learning journey.

 Punctuality Matters
Our classroom doors open at 8:30am. Please aim to arrive between 8:30am and 8:40am. Being on time helps students start the day calmly and confidently. Students arriving after 8:40am must sign in at the front office.

Pick-Up Time
Students must be collected on time at 2:45pm (Kindy/Pre-Kindy) and 3pm (PP–Year 6). If you’re delayed, please arrange alternative pick-up or use Village OSHC. Calling at 3pm makes it very difficult for us to relay messages in time, so thank you for planning ahead.

Parking
Thank you for following our school parking rules. Just to clarify, our ECE car park is only for Pre-Kindy, Kindy, Pre-Primary and additional needs families (permit required). Please always display your permit on your dash or have a photo of it on your phone. Years 1–6 should use the Loop Car Park. Please don’t park across driveways or on private property. Let others collecting your child know the rules too. Your cooperation helps keep our community safe and respectful.

Thank Your P&F Day – Celebrating Our Wonderful Parent & Friends Volunteers!

Whether it’s fundraising, running events, supporting school projects or simply being there with a helping hand and a kind word, our P&F volunteers make a big difference in our school community. We are so grateful for the time, effort, and care you give. On behalf of the staff and students at Christ the King School, thank you for everything you do! Let’s continue to celebrate and support the amazing parents and carers who help make our school a better place every day.

A Message from our School Nurse – Ms Andrea Mangan

💧 Stay Cool & Hydrated! A Friendly Reminder for Families 💧

As the cooler months settle in, it can be easy to forget the importance of staying hydrated—but our children’s bodies still need just as much water to stay healthy, focused, and energised throughout the school day. We’re encouraging all families to ensure your child brings a labelled, reusable water bottle to school each day. While we do have water fountains available, they’re often not enough to meet daily hydration needs—especially with busy classroom activities, playtimes, and sport.

🧠 Why Water Matters:

  • Boosts brain power – Hydrated children concentrate better and retain information more effectively.
  • Improves mood and behaviour – Staying hydrated helps regulate emotions and reduces irritability.
  • Supports overall health – Water aids digestion, circulation, and even immune function!
  • Builds lifelong healthy habits – Learning to drink water regularly is a skill that will benefit them for years to come.
  • We’ve noticed that when students stay hydrated, their energy levels improve, focus increases, and everyone—teachers and classmates alike—benefits from a more positive classroom environment.
  • Thank you for your continued support in allowing us to helping students stay happy, healthy, and ready to learn.

A Grateful Thanks to Mrs Anita Letizia – LifeVac Donation

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Anita, one of our wonderful staff members and parents, for her incredibly generous gift to our school — a LifeVac choking rescue device. For those unfamiliar, LifeVac is a simple, non-invasive device designed to help clear an upper airway obstruction in the event of choking, when standard first aid procedures like back blows and abdominal thrusts may not be effective. This device has been credited with saving hundreds of lives worldwide, and while we all hope we never have to use it, having one on site brings us an added layer of safety and peace of mind.

We are truly grateful to Anita for thinking of the school community and gifting this vital device. Our goal moving forward is to have three LifeVac devices across the school so each area has quick and easy access in an emergency.

Thank you, Anita — your kindness may one day make all the difference.

Messages from the P&F President – Mrs Suraya Correia

The P&F would like to acknowledge all of the people behind the scenes who have so selflessly volunteered their time over the last few weeks. Whether this be in person setting up or facilitating stalls, putting 1000 streamers on a photo backdrop or through sourcing raffle prizes and sporting equipment for the kids to all enjoy. There are so many things that so many amazing people have helped with and our school is so lucky to have many such kind and generous families all lending a hand when it’s needed the most. Thank you so much.

We would also like to thank all of the parents who submitted feedback regarding the Mothers Day Activities/Stalls this year. The responses were overwhelmingly positive and we have some helpful considerations that will be included in next year’s planning.

The Mothers Day Stalls brought in a massive $3600 which has helped us take a big step towards our fundraising goal of $50k, for the new Nature Playground that will commence later this year.

Due to the cooler next few months, the Wednesday Ice-Creams have now stopped. We would love to continue selling them on Friday’s and continue to provide the Lunch Orders for the students – But we need your help! We are currently short on volunteers, and without enough support, we may unfortunately need to pause Friday lunch orders as well. If you’re able to spare an hour of your time on a Friday to help with Lunch Orders & Ice-Creams, we’d be incredibly grateful. Many hands make light work and your contribution makes a big difference for our school community. You can sign up to assist on the P&F Hub.

The much anticipated Doughnut Day will be held this year on Friday 6th June. The Menu will soon be sent out so your children can see what we will be selling on the day. There will be a variety of delicious doughnuts to choose from including Iced, Jam, Cinnamon, Mini Balls and of course the popular Krispy Kremes! We will also have the yummy OMG doughnuts available again for any kids who have dietary restrictions. If you would like to sign up to help on the day, please jump onto the hub and let us know.

Our next meeting is being held on Wednesday 11th June at 5-6pm in the library. We would love to see you there and help us start planning Term 3.

Suraya 🙂
